Security advice
Providing the right security advice for your home or business is not something that can be explained through a website. Every house, office, business, or even shed has its own unique requirements. Below we have tried to provide a brief recommended security guide from our experiences in the locksmithing industry. For a personal service and advice tailored to your security needs, please contact us.
Break-in Repairs
If the unthinkable has happened and you've had a break-in, then Locksmiths Bristol can help repair or replace your damaged doors and locks, making sure your door can be securely locked again.
We offer 24/7 emergency locksmith services in the Bristol area and are always quick to respond.
External Doors
All external doors should be locked with one of the following:
A mortice or rim lock that conforms to BS3621.
A multi point lock (usually found on most UPVC and some wooden doors).
French Doors should have the fixed leaf locked with star key locking bolts, and a mortice lock fitted with the manufacturers rebate kit on the opening door.
Windows
Both ground floor and upper floor windows should lock with some form of key. Most modern windows come with locks fitted as standard or Locksmiths Bristol can advise you on the best lock to suit your type of windows. Another consideration for premises with a higher appeal to burglars is window grills. These come in many different types, from fixed permanent grills, to unlock and slide shutters. A whole range of colours are available to keep them discrete.
Access Control
Doors leading into restricted area's can be secured with budget mortice locks, or more commonly used mechanical or electrical coded locks. These provide a quick but secure way to prevent either: members of the public entering staff only area's, keep restricted information secure in a shared office, or even control the movement of children around the home. Mechanical and electrical door locks can have their codes changes at any time, or you could have all your mortice locks working from just one key.
Sheds
Hasp & Staple, locking bolts and shed alarms all help keep your belongings secure. Contents inside the shed can also be secured with locking cable looped through all your valuables and terminated at an anchor point can also provide a good deterrent to the opportunist thief.

Garage
There and many types of locks available depending on what type of garage door you have. The Garage door defender is one of the best designs for the common up and over door, but its best to contact us so we can recommend the best solution to your requirements.
Side doors should be fitted with BS3621 mortice locks as described in ‘External Doors' above. Anchor points can be secured on concrete floors, or bolted into the wall to provide a thief resistant loop to attach motorbikes, bicycles and other power tools to, remember to invest in a good locking cable or chain.

Valuable storage
We highly recommend that all home owners and business users invest in a safe to secure their valuables, and treasured items. The key questions we will ask you when you wish to purchase a safe will be:
a) how much room do you need inside the safe
b) where are you hoping to locate the safe
c) what is the rough value of items and cash you will be keeping in it
d) do you require the safe to provide any fire resistance.

There are many other factors we consider, but they are the most important questions. Insurance companies may reduce your premium if you declare to them that you have a safe, and the peace of mind will certainly be with the investment.
